## MPTS Solution

URL: https://transpowerco.com/about/mpts-solution

How TransPower’s Maximum Power Transfer Solution (MPTS) works — reducing electrical energy consumption 20-30% while improving power quality and equipment life.

Think of MPTS (Maximum Power Transfer Solution) as a highly advanced comprehensive power management controls system for buildings and facilities. It's designed to make electrical systems work more efficiently, saving energy and money while also being better for the environment and significantly reducing CO2.

MPTS Technology is based on the Maximum Power Transfer Theorem 1840 — now known as Jacobi’s Law.

### What MPTS does

**Energy Efficiency & Savings** — MPTS can reduce total electricity consumption by 20-30%. Reduces both electrical demand and consumption — imagine cutting your power bill by up to a third. Achieved without replacing existing connected equipment in the electrical network.

**Carbon Reduction** — Total electrical power reduction and energy savings reduce load on the utility grid and transformers, leading to lower carbon emissions.

**Power Management** — Provides a 'state-of-the-art' electrical power measurement system. Confirms performance claims, reduces watts per square foot, decreases EUI (Energy Use Intensity), and enhances grid resiliency.

**Power Quality Improvement** — Ensures your electrical equipment gets clean, stable power. This means your machines and devices work better and last longer, reducing maintenance and lowering service, repair and operating costs.

**Load Balancing** — MPTS distributes power evenly throughout your electrical system, preventing overloads and reducing wear and tear.

**Voltage/Power Stabilization** — Keeps power to the connected equipment steady, protecting sensitive equipment from power surges.

**Harmonic Reduction** — MPTS smooths out electrical "noise" that can interfere with equipment performance.

### Benefits

**Lower Energy Bills** — MPTS can significantly reduce electricity costs by reducing power consumption and improving efficiency.

**Extended Equipment Life** — With cleaner, more stable power, your electrical equipment lasts longer and requires less maintenance.

**Increased Capacity** — By optimizing power use, MPTS can free up electrical capacity, potentially delaying the need for costly system upgrades.

**Environmental Impact** — Less energy consumption means a smaller carbon footprint for your facility.

**Simple Installation** — MPTS can be seamlessly integrated into your existing electrical system without significant modifications.

### How MPTS is different

Unlike traditional power management solutions that often focus on one aspect of power quality, MPTS takes a comprehensive approach, addressing multiple issues simultaneously — like having a team of power experts constantly monitoring and adjusting your electrical system for optimal performance.

### Financial impact

CFOs will see a reduction in maintenance and operating costs. MPTS creates internal cash flow because of a decrease in maintenance. Revenues and productivity increase because of lower downtime when MPTS is installed. After achieving return on investment (ROI) within two years, MPTS becomes a revenue source. Incentives and rebates for energy efficiency provide additional cash flow and income.

### Who uses MPTS

**Architects and Design Engineers** — Use MPTS to reduce watts per square foot and CO2 emissions.

**Boards of Directors** — Use MPTS to decrease carbon emissions — social responsibility.

**Chief Executive Officers** — Use MPTS to protect their investment in expensive equipment — protecting equipment from failures and reduced downtime, delaying the aging process of electrical, electronics and computer equipment.

**Chief Financial Officers** — Use MPTS to create internal cash flow and avoid the use of emergency funds for emergency failures.

**Chief of Operations** — Use MPTS to decrease operating costs and delay aging or replacement of equipment.

**Facility/Plant Engineers** — Use MPTS to reduce service, repair and maintenance costs, and release electrical capacity to connect more load on existing panels and transformers.

**Sustainability Officers** — MPTS decreases total electrical power demand and consumption, providing energy savings.

### Return on investment

While the initial investment in MPTS technology can be significant, most facilities see a return on investment within 2-5 years through energy savings and reduced maintenance costs. Over ten years, extensive facilities could save millions in energy costs.

### Patented technique

After more than six years of dedicated research and development, TransPower created and patented innovative, cost-effective techniques that enhance electrical energy efficiency, reduce total energy consumption, and contribute to environmental sustainability. MPTS, powered by the patented Advanced Switching Technique, dynamically matches source and load impedances through a special switching network, achieving almost unity in Power Factor correction as a natural consequence. The non-intrusive nature of MPTS enables most electrical technicians to connect it quickly; MPTS is always connected before the electrical load. Standard and nonproprietary components are used in the modular assembly to enable service by any electrical contractor.

**Will Power Factor correction reduce my electricity bill?** — Yes, improving the power factor can reduce your electricity bill, especially because the Utility is charging for Billed Peak KW and Time of Use TOU. Here's how: reduced demand charges — some utility companies impose demand charges based on the maximum power (in kVA) you draw. By improving your power factor, you reduce the kVA demand since kW demand remains the same, but kVA decreases, potentially lowering demand charges. Most utilities charge you for the Billed Peak KW and Time of Use TOU. Billed Peak KW = (Measured 15-minute interval Peak KW).

**Do I need Power Factor correction?** — Power factor is one of those things that many people don't think about until there's an issue. But it's pretty important stuff, especially for businesses. The facts are, if you have a low power factor, it means you're paying for more electricity than you're using. There's a thing called reactive power that doesn't do any actual work, but your utility still charges you for it based on your total power usage. So if your loads are inductive — like motors, transformers, fluorescent lights and so on — chances are your power factor could use some correction.

**What is the ideal Power Factor?** — When it comes to power factor, the ideal number you want to aim for is as close to 1.0 as possible. Power factor is a ratio that shows how efficiently you're using the electricity you're paying for. A power factor of 1.0 means you're using 100% of the power coming from the utility for actual work — running motors, lights, computers, etc. The lower the power factor drops below 1.0, the more you're wasting money on electricity that isn't doing any useful work for you. It's called reactive power, and it's just circulating back and forth.

**What are the benefits of using the MPTS?** — Protect the investment in expensive equipment in your facility. Reduce operations, maintenance, and repair costs (O&M). Improve the electrical power quality of the network. Reduce greenhouse gasses/carbon footprint. Extend the life of equipment. Reduce current (Amperes). Decrease hot spots. Reduce fire hazards. Increase safety. Performance verification for energy. Power management, monitoring, logging, remote access, reports, dashboard, and predictive maintenance.

Lowering Energy Costs In Commercial And Industrial Properties — how MPTS technology reduces energy costs for commercial realty.

### Lowering Energy Costs In Commercial And Industrial Properties

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the commercial and industrial real estate sector is a significant energy consumer in the United States, accounting for approximately 36% of total U.S. electricity consumption. This high energy demand translates into substantial operational costs and environmental impact, making energy management a critical concern for property owners, facilities managers, and tenants.

The Scale of Energy Consumption

To understand the magnitude of energy use in commercial and industrial real estate, consider these statistics: office buildings consume an average of 17.3 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per square foot annually; warehouses and distribution centres use about 6.1 kWh per square foot yearly; manufacturing facilities can consume up to 95.1 kWh per square foot annually, depending on the industry; and energy costs represent 30% of a building's total operating expenses. These figures underscore the significant potential for energy savings in commercial and industrial real estate.

Introducing MPTS Technology

Maximum Power Transfer System (MPTS) technology offers an innovative approach to energy management in commercial and industrial properties. By optimizing power quality and reducing energy waste at the point of use, MPTS devices can significantly decrease overall energy consumption while improving the performance and longevity of electrical equipment.

Critical Benefits of MPTS Technology: Energy Consumption Reduction — MPTS devices can reduce total electrical energy consumption by 20-30% when installed behind electrical sub-panels. A 100,000-square-foot office building consuming 1.73 million kWh annually could translate to 346,000-519,000 kWh savings annually. Demand Charge Mitigation — in many markets, demand charges can account for 30-70% of electricity costs; MPTS technology helps reduce these charges by smoothing out power demand peaks. Power Quality Improvement — commercial and industrial facilities rely heavily on sensitive electronic equipment, and MPTS technology enhances power quality, reducing harmonics and improving voltage stability. Capacity Release — by optimizing power usage, MPTS can free up electrical capacity, potentially delaying or eliminating the need for costly infrastructure upgrades.
